As an employee, you are voluntarily insured if your regular income in 2025 exceeds the social security threshold of 73,800 EUR. You are generally required to pay the contributions to health and long-term care insurance yourself. Your employer pays their monthly share to health and long-term care insurance together with your salary.
More details
As a rule, your employer makes the payment and deducts your share of contributions to health and long-term care insurance from your salary. This is then paid directly to us together with the contributions to pension and unemployment insurance.
