You have several options: you can choose to deliver your baby in a hospital, a birth centre or at home. A midwife is always your primary contact person.
More details
Hospital birth
At the hospital, you will be cared for by a team of obstetricians, midwives and doctors. If necessary, all the facilities and resources for a caesarean section or an emergency are immediately available. You can stay in hospital for a few days after you have the baby or, in consultation with the doctor, go home straight after the birth of your baby.
You can choose the hospital where you want to deliver your baby. Most hospitals hold information events for you and your partner to attend. TK bears the costs for hospitals that are approved for treating insurees covered by statutory health insurance funds. This includes most of the hospitals in Germany. Simply use our German-language TK-Klinikführer [TK Hospital Guide] to find hospitals in your area.
Delivery in a birth centre
If you want to have a natural birth, you can opt for a birth centre, where you will be attended to by a midwife. We have contracts with many birth centres and cover the costs incurred there.
However, please contact us in advance to make sure that your chosen birth centre has a contract with TK. You can reach us 24 hours a day, 365 days a year on +49 40 - 46 06 62 53 00.
Home birth
If you prefer, you can also deliver your baby at home. Your midwife will assist you during home birth as well. We will cover the costs of the midwife’s services during pregnancy, birth, and for the immediate period afterwards.
