You can receive child sick pay from TK if the following conditions are satisfied:
- You are entitled to sick pay for example as an employee or if you are self-employed and have opted for a sick pay plan.
- You are unable to go to work in order to look after your child and do not receive any remuneration from your employer.
- New as of 2024: You are accompanying your child during a stay in hospital or a rehabilitation facility. For this reason, you are unable to work and do not receive any remuneration from your employer.
- You are self-employed and do not have any income as you are either looking after your child or accompanying them during a stay in hospital or a rehabilitation facility
- Your child is covered by statutory health insurance.
- Your child is below the age of 12 or is disabled and is dependent on assistance.
- No other person living in your household can take on this task.
- You have confirmation from the doctor stating that you have to care for your sick child. Alternatively, you have confirmation from the hospital stating that you are required to accompany your child.
Trainees with a child
Are you in vocational training and your child is sick? In that case, your employer is always obliged by law to continue paying your vocational training pay during this time (pursuant to the Berufsbildungsgesetz [German Vocational Training Act]). You should contact your employer directly about this.
