We will pay for root canal treatment in cases where the tooth is considered to be worth preserving and this is the most suitable type of treatment. We will also cover the costs of root tip resection for teeth at the front and sides.

Root treatment: If the tooth can be preserved
This may not always be the case, especially for the molars right at the back. We can only cover the costs of root canal treatment if one of the following conditions is met:
- The molar is located in a full row of teeth without any gaps.
- The treatment will prevent the row of teeth from being shortened towards the back on one side.
- The treatment could preserve existing dental prostheses.
- There may be other reasons to preserve the tooth in individual cases.
Treatments you pay for yourself
In addition to the treatments billed using your TK eHealth card, your dentist may offer private services such as special treatment techniques. Examples include:
- electrometric measurements of root canal length, or
- special methods for cleaning and disinfecting the root canals
You must pay these costs yourself.
The ZahnFlex supplementary dental insurance plan offered by our cooperation partner Envivas Krankenversicherung AG may cover the additional costs of root treatment.

The last resort: root tip resection
Centres of inflammation in the root tip are removed surgically, the root canal is filled (before or during the operation) and the tooth is sealed with a final filling. We will cover the costs for teeth at the front and sides provided the tooth is worth preserving.
